Advantages of Mini-Split Air Conditioning
If you’re installing AC for the first time, replacing an old system, or adding a room to your home, consider ductless mini-splits.
There are several reasons that people choose ductless AC over traditional central air conditioning:
- Easy installation
- Zoned cooling
- Scalable
- More energy efficient
- Quiet operation
Mini-split air conditioning operates with one or more indoor units attached to a single outdoor unit. We mount indoor units to the wall or ceiling or place them on the floor.
Installation involves drilling a hole in the wall to run lines to the outdoor units. This is less disruptive than installing ducts. Each indoor unit can be set at a different temperature for zoned cooling. This can be helpful if you prefer different temperatures throughout your home. It’s also useful if one room is consistently a different temperature from the others. In addition, ductless AC allows you to cool just one or two rooms at a time.
Mini-split air conditioning is also more easily scalable than traditional ducted AC. With ducted AC, adding to your house might require a bigger AC unit. If you have a ductless mini-split system, you simply need to add another indoor unit.
With ductless AC, you don’t lose any air as it travels through air ducts, making it more efficient. Another advantage of a mini-split system is that it can heat as well as cool your home.
